HABITAT

Campaign - Project for Revitalisation of Council Buildings

Resume of our idea in 305 words

  • We present analysis of the buildings and their maintenance which resulted in the assessment for a comprehensive restart rather than retrofit repairs: for more see our Context text.

  • We outline the main problems in their social, communal, technical, contextual and architectural aspect: you can read about in our Problems essay.

  • The disintegration of the social buildings from the Urban fabric cannot be stoped with partial efforts. In our Urban fabric text we defend the idea how these buildings could be much more than only a physical part of the cities.

  • Social integration: The modules which we introduce to the building structure aim to integrate business within the ecosystem of the building. For text see our Social chapter, for visual illustration see the collage Illustration Episode 01.

  • The way we live with nature: Can we speak about new Architecture without involving the nature in? We discuss ways in which nature in architecture can be perceived. Read more in our Nature essay.

  • The modules. Structured in two groups of use: those for use of the locals and the wider public and those for the local community only. See in our Modules section.

  • We advocate for the use of most sustainable materials for achieving energy efficiency for improving the economic value of the buildings and on the other hand to achieve a better comfort and standard of living.

  • How to make this idea viable?  Through a deal which links the local authorities with developers and investors. See the second slide here. We’re looking to expand this conversation so in case of interest get in touch for a talk with us.

  • The proposal is created by our studio based on long-years experience on the London and the international architectural scene.

What do we aim? As architects with an expertise in residential projects, we appreciate the significance of the existing council buildings. We respect their goal to provide a safe environment for many people and their families. However, we critically evaluate the quality of life they offer and we believe in the potential for their improvement.

Why social buildings? Our focus lies in social buildings, aiming to revisit and revitalise spaces within the existing structures. Our design philosophy seeks to create contemporary living environments that bring the city into the building, offering carefully curated opportunity for a vibrant community, safe play areas for children, apartments redesigned in a contemporary aesthetics, and a thoughtful incorporation of nature to enhance the overall environment.

Our key principles. We are working on developing a strategy and a guide for a realisation where the main ingredient is culture: culture of living, culture of places usually visited on tourism, which make people dream "how they would love to live in such a place” and a culture of contemporary creativity.

How do we tell the story? We are happy to present our ideas in conversations with different individuals and companies interested in such discussions and realisation. Additionally, please take a moment to explore our flyer series on the Habitat project’s page – we refer to each as an "episode" and assign them numbers, creating a jigsaw puzzle that comes together to showcase our vision.
