Aparat believes that Bulgarian identity is not an isolated island, but a living branch of a larger South-European spirit - this is why we are expanding the museum's scope beyond our own borders. From this thought was born the research initiative "Southern Cultural Research" - a living compendium that grows with every new contribution from our museum community.
We present the foundation of this map: a catalogue of works by Bulgarian Revival-era masters from Aparat's library, alongside works and places kindred in spirit to our own - because the southern spirit does not belong to a privileged list of countries, but to something that even northern England carries within its own Cornwall.
Pinacoteca.Aparat's research can be expanded by any member of our museum community - through photographs, findings, and personal discoveries - so that this map of South-European culture grows beyond the museum showcase, as a living, shared compendium.
Current Aparat.Campaigns 3/3: Pinacoteca.Aparat’s cultural currency: New Bulgarian Levove
Aparat believes that the abolished Bulgarian currency - the Bulgarian lev - cannot and should not be discontinued as a cultural symbol and value. This is why we created a new form in which it can continue to live.
From this thought was born the idea for the "Levove" art series - small cards of cultural, not financial, value, carrying the images of Bulgarian creators and people of the spirit who have shaped our world.
Here we present the Series A, created by vldr-vldrm, in which you can see: Seuthes III, architect Andrey Damyanov, Bistra Vinarova, Georgi Markov, Pitu Gyulev, Vasko Abadzhiev, and Yoan Kukuzel.
Levove by Aparat Bulgarian Bank can be ordered from our Cornershop and used as a supplement to physical euro payments, so that these cards/banknotes can pass through as many hands as possible - as a complementary cultural symbol and not as a financial replacement.
